Meet The Villains

BURLAP is the brainchild of writer Jesse James Baer. For many years Jesse focused on writing and directing independent films but recently changed lanes to pursue writing comic books. BURLAP began as a short film Jesse intended to create for fun, but the production was riddled with problems. After two years of struggling just to get through pre-production on his film something happened that would change the course of Jesse's life. Suddenly and unexpectedly Jesse lost a beloved member of his family. In the darkest of times Jesse always turns to his writing as a way to vent and escape the real life horrors around him, but the film wasn't working out and he had to find a new way to tell his story. In March of 2019 Jesse met comic book creator and artist Buz Hasson (THE LIVING CORPSE) at the Monster Mania Convention in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Jesse would go on to commission Buz Hasson to create an illustration of the BURLAP character. Upon receiving the finished sketch Jesse knew right then and there that the film was dead, but BURLAP would rise from the ashes as a gritty horror/noir comic. In no time the once film script was rewritten, now as a comic with no limits. The only thing left to do was find an artist that could bring the story to life.

BURLAP is illustrated and lettered by accomplished artist Zoran Jovicic of Novi Sad, Serbia. Zoran was born in 1984 in Mrkonjic Grad, a city in the Republic of Srpska. In Belgrade, he graduated at the Higher Vocational School, Department of Industrial Design. His first comic was Kosingas - Order of the Dragon that was published in 2016, followed by two sequels in 2017 and 2018. Recently Zoran has done the artwork for the comic book Memento Mori which was published in 2019, the same year he came aboard as the artist for the BURLAP series.
